Lorraine H. Morton was mayor of Evanston, Illinois, from 1993 to 2009.[1][2]
She was born in Winston-Salem North Carolina and moved to Evanston in 1953. She has one daughter and two grandchildren.[1]
Morton was re-elected in 1997, 2001 and 2005. Earlier, she served on Evanston City Council as Fifth Ward alderman for nine years.[1]
Prior to her experience in municipal government, Morton was an educator at Foster Elementary School, Nichols and Chute middle schools, and principal of Evanston's Haven Middle School.[1]
She received her bachelor's degree from Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina and master's degree from Northwestern University.[1]
